Discussion of the European Construction Products Regulation with Christian Doleschal MEP

The European Construction Products Regulation (CPR) prescribes uniform EU-wide testing standards for construction products. Last year, the European Commission presented a new draft. This draft is intended to make the regulation fit for the transition to a green and digital economy. The proposed amendments also have an impact on SIMON PROtec and the electro and digital industries as a whole.

On Monday, we discussed this draft in-house with the responsible rapporteur Christian Doleschal MEP, Peter Krapp and Dr. Peter Thelen from the Electro and Digital Industry Association (ZVEI), as well as direct candidates for the Bavarian state parliament Stefan Meyer and Josef Heisl.

The discussion focused, among other things, on the regulations on the sustainability of building products. Martin Weber, Head of Executive Board at SIMON PROtec, emphasised that many building products contribute significantly to the sustainability of buildings. He argued that, for example, in lift shafts, closable roof domes improve the thermal insulation of buildings compared to open hatches.

All participants in the discussion agreed that the standstill in standardisation must be eliminated. Current and up-to-date standards are needed in the European Union. Other economic unions can then follow these standards as a guideline. However, these standards must be appropriate and meaningful.
