Our orange now turns green! Biobased SHEV switch

For many years SIMON PROtec have been developing and manufacturing innovative products in the field of fire safety. Our latest product is an example of our vision of a more environmentally friendly future: For the first time, we are using a bio-based plastic made from 78% renewable raw materials for the housing of our HE-080/081/082 safety override switch.

Preventive fire protection and sustainability are two topics that are not normally associated with each other. We now want to change that.

Sustainable thanks to excellent energy and CO2 balance

The material is not only industrially compostable, but its production is also significantly more environmentally friendly than comparable materials. For example, only about 0.7 kWh per kilogram of material is needed in production. For comparison: petroleum-based ABS requires about 2.7 kWh/kg, aluminium even 13 to 20 kWh/kg.

The CO2 balance is also much more favourable - during the production of one kilogram of the bio-based composite, a total of only 2.4 kg of CO2 is released. In turn, 1.35 kg of atmospheric CO2 can be bound per kilogram of granulate, so that effectively only 1.05 kg of CO2 is released into the atmosphere. No comparison with the alternatives: 3.5 kg of CO2 are released in the production of one kilogram of ABS, and as much as 8 to 10 kg of CO2 in the case of aluminium.
