Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) has begun the complete restoration of its headquarters on Szabadság Square. The building was inaugurated in 1905 and has become increasingly runious and outdated over the past decades. To mark the centenary of the founding of the central bank in 1924, the building will be completely renovated and ceremoniously reopened.
The MNB headquarters was originally built between 1902 and 1905 as the headquarters of the Budapest branches of the Austro-Hungarian Bank and is constructed in an eclectical-neobaroque style. The iconic building on Szabadság Square has served as the headquarters of the MNB for almost 100 years without interruption since the founding of the central bank.
The building is now to be restored to its original condition and damage to the architecture caused by the Second World War will be repaired. In line with the MNB's environmental programme, a modern and energy-efficient office building is being created. The aim is not only to guarantee long-term use, but also to reduce the CO2 footprint in line with the climate challenges of the times.
To ensure fire protection, we equipped the glass roof of the historic building with a total of 86 folding arms and the matching M-SHEV control centre. Thanks to the space-saving, visually appealing design of the folding arms, no design compromises are necessary. The actuators are certified as NSHEVs in accordance with EN 12101-2 and ensure natural smoke ventilation without additional mechanical ventilation - a perfect solution for the environmental concept.
